Greetings!
This
week's guest introduction is from Steve Tatarunis, Menlo
East, and ALMA Winter Symposium Committee
Chair:
ALMA's 2008 Winter
Symposium is now less than seven weeks away and I trust
that you all are making your travel plans to Las Vegas
and hope you took advantage of the early bird
registration rates. Looking back, I
believe this will be the 10th year that I
have served as the symposium committee chair and I am
excited by the momentum that ALMA has gained under the
directorship of Zarina Bhimani and leadership of
outgoing President Stu Lumsden.
Over
the past few years, we have seen a positive upward trend
of symposium attendees and exhibitor numbers. Additionally, we
have an active and enthusiastic board and committed
committee chairs who have been working hard behind the
scenes to build on this momentum and to solidify the
winter symposium's status as the "go to" event for the
loudspeaker industry.
While
it is always gratifying to see symposium attendees
returning year after year, our goal for this year is to
increase the number of first time attendees. Our symposium
program offers something for everyone so please spread
the word among your colleagues. Buyers, R&D,
manufacturing and quality engineers, sales and
marketing, middle and executive management all can
benefit from attending. The ALMA Winter
Symposium 2008 will be a great opportunity to gather,
learn, share and network. If you've never
attended an ALMA symposium, I invite you to come and
join us in Las Vegas and see what you've been
missing.

booths left before we hit our maximum room capacity of
24 booths, so don't delay - book now to secure your
spot. We have suppliers of components, materials,
ferrofluids, test equipment, design software,
electronics and drivers, so there is something for
everyone.
A tabletop booth is only $720 for full members
(additional membership fee applies for non-members).
This fee includes a draped table and 2
chairs, a sign with your company name and 2 exhibit hall
only staff passes which include lunch. Don't miss out!

Exhibitor Profile: Klippel
GmbH.
Klippel will be
demonstrating the new QC System with Motor and
Suspension Check.
The maximal output of the loudspeaker,
distortion, and motor stability depend on the suspension
properties which vary significantly from batch to batch
due to material uncertainties, climate and storage
conditions. A new measurement technique is presented
which makes it possible to measure voice coil offset in
mm, suspension asymmetries in percent and other large
signal parameters useful for quality control during
end-of-line testing. This data is easy to interpret and
directly indicates defects of motor and suspension.
Exploiting this information in process control reduces
the number of failed units and ensures consistent
properties of the manufactured drive units and
loudspeaker systems.
