Testing Headphone Speakers

Testing the basic parameters of a headphone such as frequency response, distortion, and impedance is basically the same as testing a loudspeaker. However, because of the different listening environment of headphones and earphones, there are some unique challenges that need to be addressed. These include coupling and sealing of the device under test, accounting for the response of human ear, and differences between testing for repeatability and testing under real world conditions. This tutorial will cover solutions to these challenges and will demonstrate several examples of headphone testing. Download Tutorial
Measurements of a Miniature USB Loudspeaker Using the Prism dScope Series III

This tutorial aims to illustrate how a multi-functional audio analysis platform can streamline the task of designing, refining, testing and manufacturing a miniature USB loudspeaker. Prism Sound’s dScope Series III audio test and measurement platform caters for testing all components of a loudspeaker system, including analogue and digital electronics, board-level serial digital audio data and Windows® audio devices. This system facilitates both electronic and acoustic domain measurements, and will be used to illustrate the presentation. Download Tutorial
FINE MicroSpeaker Simulation & Design

The 2009 FINE-Suite of Design software from LOUDSOFT was updated to facilitate the design of micro speakers, receivers and headphones. This tutorial will simulate small and thin diaphragms in FINECone, and optimize the profile to avoid break-up. It will also show how to transfer the result to FINEBox to simulate small chamber volumes with venting holes, optimize the BLx curve for low distortion with FINEMotor, and get maximum sensitivity at low cost. It will also preview of upcoming LOUDSOFT software tools. Download Tutorial
