Welcome to the first ALMA Newsletter of 2007. We bring you the long awaited Winter Symposium report, and also annouce our new job board, updated standards and member news. Firstly let me say a big thank you to everyone who made this show a success. This was my first year organizing the Symposium, and I am pleased to say that attendance was up 40% on last year, and the ratings in the post-show survey were excellent. Technical Paperstechnical papers

The technical papers covered a wide range of topics from test and measurement to diamond loudspeaker cones, and included presentations from Wolfgang Klippel, Steve Temme, Earl Geddes and Adrian Bankewitz. You can read a full report as well as download the papers on the website.

 
Tutorials
Tutorials were presented on subjects as diverse as nonlinearity in loudspeakers, Rub & Buzz measurement and subwoofer signal processing solutions.

Exhibitorsbooth

With 8 new exhibitors this year, as well as some of the regulars, there was something for everyone, with products ranging from test and measurement equipment to materials and electronics.  Exhibitors included Listen, Loudsoft, Klippel, Gras, K&K, Propex, KSC Industries, Ferrotec, Ferrolabs, R&D Team, Anadigm, Phase Design and Voicecoil. ALMA has a new recruitment board on its website! This offers a unique opportunity to get your open positions in front of a highly targeted audience. It is a great member benefit as full members may post open positions here free of charge. Non members may post positions at a cost of $200 for a 3 month listing. We also offer the opportunity for individual members to post resumes.

EAV's Audio Masters Tour entitled "Loudspeakers in a global world - research, development and manufacturing" takes place in May and June in China. The tour will consist of three seminars on May 28/29 in Szengzen (South China), on June 1st in Bejing and on June 4th in Shanghai. The seminars, organized by Eric Chu from EAV in conjunction with ALMA International and the Chinese Audio Frequency Engineering Society (CAFES) address the important role of communication in education, research, development and manufacturing of
loudspeakers. The experts speak about loudspeaker technology, share their personal experiences in the audio industry and report on their work in international organizations such as AES and ALMA which support the exchange of technical ideas and cultural contacts.
The invited speakers are John Vanderkooy, University of Waterloo and Editor of  the Journal of the Audio Engineering Society, Stu Lumsden, Polk Audio and President of ALMA, and Wolfgang Klippel, University of Technology Dresden and Vice President of ALMA. For more information about the program and entrance costs, please call the EAV office at +86 755 2693 8069.

 

ALMA will have a booth at the Chinese speaker parts trade show, which is in Guangzhou, May 10 - 12, 2007. The 8,000 square meter exhibit floor will feature new electroacoustic products, components, materials and assembly equipment and machinery. ALMA board member Steve Tatarunis will be on-hand to tell people about the benefits of ALMA membership and encourage companies to exhibit at the ALMA Winter Symposium. If you are in the area, stop by and say 'hello'.
