  • Greetings!

In this short update we introduce a new Winter Symposium training class "Practical Aspects of Loudspeaker Design ", presented by Peter Larsen. We also introduce products from two more of our exhibitors, Ferrotec and R&D Team, and remind you to sign up for the symposium if you haven't already done so. Please forward this update to your friends and colleagues in the industry!

Training Class: Practical Aspects of Loudspeaker Design

This training class will discuss how good loudspeaker design results in smooth production and high quality products. It will cover the design of magnet systems, dome tweeters, cones and cross-overs. It will also cover making loudspeaker measurements. The course will be illustrated throughout with practical examples and all attendees will receive a copy of the training book “Better Speaker Designs in Practice”.

Peter Larsen, B.Sc. EE. has held a variety of engineering positions at SEAS, Vifa-Speak, Dynaudio and JBL. Since 1993 he has worked as an independent consultant for leading loudspeaker factories all over the world including Audax in France, KEF Audio and NXT in the UK, Goldmax in China, Vifa- Speak in Denmark, and Peerless Fabrikkerne of India. Peter specializes in in-depth analysis of loudspeakers and manufacturing techniques, research concerning new components and materials, advanced Acoustic Finite Element modelling, new measuring methods, novel speaker design concepts and development of customized products. He also offers a software package for speaker development and design.

    Exhibitor Focus
    ferrofluid

Ferrotec, the world leader in ferrofluid for the loudspeaker industry since 1973, offers a complete line of high reliability ferrofluids that increase yield during the manufacture of speakers, improve speaker performance by stabilizing voice coil motion, and extend speaker life. The new APG 1100 series fluids offer next generation, cost-competitive fluid for tweeters and midrange speakers with unparalleled performance. The new developmental APG CD series fluids is the answer for the demanding high temperature requirements of power compression drivers.

R&D Team will be demonstrating Vacs (Visualising ACousticS), a software package that has been developed by engineers for engineers to simplify the way they visualise, process and store their acoustic data. Comparing measurements or simulations of differing origins is easy, because Vacs supports a broad range of proprietary file formats (MLSSA, Clio, EASERA, B&K, etc.) and also comes with a highly configurable ASCII-import. Vacs offers sophisticated tools for analysing directivity data, for example those produced by turntable or microphone cluster measurements. Vacs keeps data analysis and storage simple, allowing engineers to focus on using their creativity to invent and develop great products.

There is still time to join these and other exhibitors. Sign up for a tabletop booth!
