Greetings!
ALMA Europe - Loudspeaker Design - Science
& Art - is just over a week away.
Co-located with Prolight+ Sound / Musikmesse in
Frankfurt, we are expecting excellent attendance from
all the loudspeaker engineers that will be in town. See
below for full program details and
exhibitors. | |

Technical
Program
We
have an excellent technical program lined up, which
consists of three separate sessions, each with several
paper presentations and a panel discussion. First on the
agenda is 'Loudspeaker Modeling - the basis of
driver design' followed by a panel discussion entitled
'How precisely can we predict loudspeaker performance
today?' Next up is 'Subjective and objective evaluation
of loudspeakers' with five papers and a panel discussion
entitled 'How well do our standard measurements for the
assessment of sound quality perform?'. Finally we have
a session on 'Design of Active and Passive
Loudspeaker Systems' with six papers and a panel
discussion on 'What can we do with DSP in Loudspeaker
design?' Full Technical

Audiomatica
 In its 25th anniversary
Audiomatica presents the new software CLIO release 10.
CLIO 10, synthesis of all previous releases, introduces
new, state of the art, approaches to complex topics like
Quality Control with its Fast-Track™ R&B testing.
For R&D lab applications CLIO 10 is also capable of
automating two-turntables data collection for executing
3-D directivity measurements; results are presented as
3-D graphs also known as "balloons" and may be exported
to common formats for integration in external simulation
software packages." Audiomatica Web

Exhibitor Preview: Klippel
GmbH
 Klippel QC provides new
features for end-of-line-testing: Full ambient noise
immunity can be realized by repeating corrupted
measurements automatically and merging undisturbed parts
into a complete response. Motor and Suspension Check
(MSC) and other new diagnostic tools are developed to
identify the cause of defects (voice coil offset,
rubbing coil, particles, ...) and to decrease the rate
of rejection. KLIPPEL R&D provides additional tools
for analyzing scanning data of woofers, tweeters,
headphones, compression drivers and micro-speakers. This
system is a powerful tool for cone design, driver
selection and complete system development. Klippel Web

Loudsoft
 LOUDSOFT will demonstrate
how designing with LOUDSOFT simulation software can save
time, save tooling, avoid errors and obtain better
quality. For developing new designs, FINEMotor can
improve your magnet systems and get max. BL, even when
using steel frames. When you make modifications,
FINECone can help you modify a standard product to fit
your specifications. The simulation only takes seconds
and perhaps all you need is to chance the material. When
you are problem solving, FINE X-over can help you
redesign. For example, if you have burned tweeters, in
minutes you can lower the power in the tweeter without
sacrificing the good response you had
before. Loudsoft

Exhibitor Preview: Listen,
Inc.
 Listen will be
demonstrating the new AmpConnect - a USB hardware device
that simplifies loudspeaker testing by combining an
impedance box, amplifier, microphone power supply and
digital I/O card in a 19" rack-mountable unit.
AmpConnect can be fully integrated and controlled by
SoundCheck. Listen will also be demonstrating SoundMap,
its time frequency analysis software. SoundMap is ideal
for impulse response analysis and detection of loose
particles and Rub & Buzz in loudspeakers. Its
detailed analysis in both the time and frequency domain,
and four different analysis make it far more flexible
than conventional 'waterfall plot' software, and
includes more accurate and psychoacoustically
significant analysis options. Listen Inc.

NTI
 NTI shows the PureSound
Test System, a comprehensive measurement solution with a
unique and reliable defects analysis for speakers and
microphones. The key element forms the objective
Rub&Buzz analysis. It correlates 100% to the
subjective perception of the human hearing thus
replacing the human operator against an objective and
reliable test instrument. The typical cycle time is less
than two seconds. The turnkey software shows a simple
PASSED/FAILED readout to the operator or the detailed
view of all measured speaker parameters, such as
frequency response, distortion, impedance and
Thiele/Small parameters. PureSound forms the solution
for simplicity, reproducibility and automation in a
factory environment. NTI

Sound
 Prism Sound,
manufacturers of audio test equipment for acoustic and
electronic applications, is launching a new lower-cost
version of its groundbreaking dScope Series III audio
analyzer. This new version is aimed at research and
development engineers and production line managers, in
particular in electro-acoustics, who are currently only
concerned with audio analysis in the analogue domain.
This new format gives customers all of the power and
flexibility of the dScope Series III platform in a
package that will be even more competitively
priced. Prism Sound Website
