ALMA Winter Symposium

January 5-7, 2009 Orleans Hotel, Las Vegas, NV

First Announcement Jun 20, 2008
Forward to a Friend

Greetings!

After 2 years showing almost a 40% year-on-year growth in attendee numbers, we are excited about the 2009 Winter Symposium and are starting our planning even earlier than usual to ensure that everyone knows about it far enough ahead of time to plan accordingly!

We plan to make the 2009 event bigger and better than ever before. We have taken on board all your feedback from last year, and this has resulted in us running an additional training class on Jan 5, the day before the main two day event on Jan 6-7, to ease the situation of having several concurrent events on the first day. We hope that this will allow more people to attend the training, and increase traffic in the exhibit hall. We have already assembled an exciting line-up of events and hope that you are able to join us.

Exhibit Booth Sign Up

Exhibit boothFor the first time in recent years we sold out of exhibit hall space last year, and had to turn exhibitors away. To ensure that this does not happen again, we have doubled our space this year so that we can accommodate up to 40 booths. Many of our 24 2008 exhibitors are already signed up for a booth at this year's symposium, so we are well on the way to filling the space. We offer early bird discounts to those that book prior to the end of August, so don't miss out - sign up today!

Psychoacoustics Training Class - Dr. Floyd Toole

Renowned audio researcher Dr. Floyd Toole will be presenting a full-day training class, "The Acoustics and Psychoacoustics of Loudspeakers and Rooms, at the ALMA Winter Symposium on Mon Jan 5th. This course will be heavily based on his book entitled "Sound Reproduction: loudspeakers and rooms" due for publication later this year. All class participants will receive a copy of the book.
Dr. Toole's research has focused on the acoustics and psychoacoustics of sound reproduction in small rooms, directed to improving engineering measurements, objectives for loudspeaker design and evaluation, and techniques for reducing variability at the loudspeaker / room / listener interface.

Dr. Toole has impressive business and academic credentials, having held the postion of Corporate Vice President - Acoustical Engineering at Harman International from 1991 until he retired in 2007 and Senior Research Officer in the Acoustics and Signal Processing Group at the National Research Council of Canada. He studied electrical engineering at the University of New Brunswick, and at the Imperial College of Science and Technology, University of London, where he received a Ph.D. More information about this course will follow in a future Winter Symposium bulletin.
